The Craft Kit That Almost Broke Me
The Craft Kit That Almost Broke Me
Hi Friends!
This week I’m struggling through my first craft kit of the year with this Latchkits Yarnimal Koala bear. It’s a cute idea but, boy, did it test me.

kudos for actually finishing this, i sure would not have.
"To fill the koala with love… gross" instantly made me sub
v
Also, I can’t believe I’m saying that a product should actually be SMALLER, but for the recommended age, this just seems like waaaay too big a project!
There isn’t an 8-year-old on the planet who would have the patience to finish this entire thing! 😩
Is it just me or do the feet look like boobs?
okay but you did such a good job and it’s adorable. Also can’t imagine 8 year old me doing it. 24 year old me definitley couldn’t.
what if you can 3d print a mesh like this out :0
i had a similar fox version that i didn’t even bother trying to do when i saw how hard it was going to be lol
and i was 13-14 when i got it
Interested to see where your channel goes from here
This seems like a scary project to give eight year olds. I think it would result in a lot of whining, if not tears of frustration, which would result in a great deal of adult intervention…. causing the project to not do it’s job of keeping a child busy for a while so their parent/guardian could chill. Just thinking of losing that chill time lets me know I Would Not Buy this Yarnimals kit. And, why were there larger holes? Also, if one loop got caught on something, and the bear was pulled (as children tend to do), would the entire strand/string of yarn unravel like the looped string on a bag of dog food? Nope, not for my house.
I wonder how many takes it took for the AD for this thing
The fact that this piece of crap made it to market is a nasty symptom of unbridled capitalism.
Reminds me of Latch hook kits my mom would make when i was little
so they gave a crocher hook for a latch hook project. ffs just provide the right tool in the kit, a latch hook would be easiet
It’s very fluffy
Thanks for making content like this. Never woulda known otherwise
🐨
Those loops are gonna pull right out the first time one gets even slightly snagged on something
The fact that it’s a crochet-like hook is killing me
wire mother for today
I had a mat one of these that was a llama… I gave up almost immediately because it was so infuriating
I think this needs actual latch hook. So I would cut the yarns and do it like a latch hook. Hm.
I had a latch hook teddy kit kicking around for years before I finally decluttered it. (And my sister’s kit that she didn’t want- maybe it was a tiger?) That was counted latch hook on a massive canvas–you had to figure out the various sections, latch hook them, cut them out, and then sew them together. Very intimidating–I don’t think I ever even started it. Cool idea, though, and definitely better designed than this cheapo kit.
Screw that. Two seconds in I would have stopped and went to find my actual latch hook. If I couldn’t find it off to Joanns I would have went!
the inside needs some of that glue that those people who make rugs with pokemon on them use. I’d be too anxious about the yarn coming undone
I’d have definitely chopped the yarn up and done it as a latch hook project in frustration
That looks annoying to put together
Wtf didn’t they give you a latch hook for a latch hook kit omg
it came out super cute but I know for a fact that I (an 18 yro) would not have the patience for it, so its wild they’re marketing it as 8+ lol
I thought it was really cute
It would definitely be too repetitive and too frustrating for me
I know who designed this because I was on the team that did it. It was an absolute shit show as beaurocratic nonsense tends to be. The original product idea started so very differently versus what wound up in box.
The short of it a corporate merger mid development, beurocracy, and a company that wanted a toy and not a craft destroyed the fun idea of tufting on plastic canvas (not that rigid plastic).
I made dozens of these bastards. And fun fact: the design image of the koala doesn’t show you the same holes because the CAD was changed so many times. The snap together never worked because the engineers involved didn’t figure out a solution to yarn tension effecting the plastic’s snappability due to the rush from idea to shelf (which is hilarious b/c it was in development for 2 years, including my entire maternity leave in 2021 where nothing changed). The form isn’t painted because painting tests chipped paint off, costs for a better process were too high, and they switched factories back and forth during production runs trying to find the cheaper price (toys are fun to deaign…right?).
Anyway, it’s been out of production for over a year, so any left on the market are the remnants of the bureaucratic hell that is the corporate toy industry.
You can, tho, do the same technique on plastic canvas. It’s really fun and way easier b/c it isn’t as rigid. You can also use good yarn (do not get me started on this factory’s yarn — I can’t even), a larger hook, and assorted plastic canvas shapes.
Thanks for giving me a laugh and a flashback. Truly one of the wildest projects I worked on. Now that you’ve seen this Shutterstock model, go around craft stores, toy stores, and Amazon and see where else you can spot her. It’s a fun game. She’s everywhere. And no, we designers don’t think you should want to hug this thing either…maybe burn it after you fill it with love (I might have written that line >_>;;).
This looks like crochet 😂 Kudos for you doing this 👍 new to your channel and subbed
“Gross.”
Took me out. 🤣💀
i mean, much like a coloring book, nothing is actually stopping you from using different colors than intended. hell, considering it’s just vaguely teddy bear shaped, it doesn’t even have to be a koala
I used to do latch hook as an 8 yo. I made a rug and a pillow and cute fun things. This is NOT latch hook, that’s just a crochet hook making loops. If this actually came with the yarn pre cut into strands and a latch hook this would be a great kit.
You have so much patience 😭 also why would they give you a crochet hook? It’s the wrong tool for the kit, and it’s wayyyy too small for the yarn given. Thb I would rather free style a crochet patern for a koala than do this kit 😭
I would have pulled out a knitting needle (specifically the ones used for making socks,) to use on the yarn that was pulled through the holes like this: pull the yarn through the hole, insert the knitting needle into the new loop, pull the yarn to tighten it around it and then pull the yarn through the next hole. Once you have 5-6 stitches on the knitting needle, release the stitches as you keep on making new stitches keeping the same number of stitches on throughout. That way you would be sure that the stitches have a consistent size and you don’t risk accidentally pulling out the previous ones.
❤❤❤
All I know is that I, an adult, would not have the patience for this. These kits really aren’t for kids!!
Not to offend anyone, who else thought the thumbnail looked like Buddy Ai 😂
Omg that form looks like my radiation mask for oral cancer. Could not do that.. it is scary frame
No explica despacio cómo tejer😫
Maybe I’m weird because I like this kit and want to try it now. 😂
when I was little I loved their latch-hooks, shame that the quality went down 🙁
You did a good job but I think the thing is ugly and a useless toy dust collector.
I agree this not easy and frustrating. I bought it for my granddaughter . How did you get the loops from pull out . I feel like I am missing something.
just watching this is giving me so much stress and anxiety 😭
Seems it would be much easier to use a yarn needle than that hooking tool.
ur supposed to use a thinner yarn
